All Trees Die Eventually

Doing research about planting trees has gotten me down several rabbit holes. I learned that some live oak trees live up to 1000 years. But to think about how these live oak trees eventually stop doing what they’ve been doing for centuries, and die for no other reason other than reaching the end of their lifespan.

For some reason I never thought about trees as having a lifespan. I only thought about their death when they are cut down or become victims to disease or natural disaster.

What a thought.

According to the article, “an over-abundance of helicopters indicates the tree experienced stress the previous year. Producing a bumper crop of seeds is the tree’s way of carrying on the species, should the stress continue and the tree die off.”
