Eagle Scout Project (Dec 2015)

In the later part of 2015, I planned and led my Boy Scout Troop 520 in the execution of my Eagle Scout Project. The Eagle Scout Project is the final active requirement of the highest rank. I decided to pursue a project close to my heart and home.

I grew up boating, fishing, kayaking, (other -ing’s) the Intercoastal Waterway in the Indian River Lagoon all during my childhood. Many of those weekends were spent visiting the spoil islands throughout Brevard County.

For my project, the objective was to purchase materials, build, transport and install picnic tables, barbecue grills and fire rings on a spoil island in a river. We also removed invasive plant and tree species. The island was BC40.

I arranged a car wash at Taco Bell to acquire funds for the project.

The major challenge was transportation of all my volunteers, materials and pizza across the waterway to the island, with one small boat. After a day of work, all was installed and my county contact was satisfied with the work my troop had done.

In January 2016, I turned 18 and my Board of Review was in February, marking my official completion of the Boy Scouts of America Eagle rank.
